Buzz Kull Tampa Concert reviews
Dont go for the Zep songs
Buzz Kull was difficult to figure out. The re-interpretations of the Led Zepp songs were generally dire, with Black Dog being a dirge without any melody, Ramble On rambled on and on without much punch. Houses of the Holy was an inspired choice but dirge-like until a thrilling musical coda finished the song off. Buddy Miller's excellent guitar work was showcased on the new album songs, much better live than on the CD. Pity that during the Zepp re-interpretations, all he had to do was strum.
3 band members of the Band of Joy had individual showcase songs in the concert. If you really like the Band of Joy album, go and see the show. If you expect anything much more than that, perhaps give it a miss. The band generally murdered those Led Zeppelin songs. I didn't stay for the encores and the likelihood of another dirge-like re-interpretation. I now wish I'd gone to see Wire instead (on the same night in Chicago).
